One of the best birdwatching moments of the year in Catalonia is, without a doubt, between the last week of April and the first week of May, coinciding with the peak of the spring migration. For this reason, we will organize a full-day outing in one of the protected natural areas with the highest bird diversity in Europe, aiming to observe as many species as possible in a single day.
We will take the opportunity to explain the most useful distinguishing features for correctly identifying all these species with binoculars, and we will also dedicate an intensive session to auditory identification, learning to recognize their songs and calls. We will walk together through different habitats, discussing these aspects in a relaxed way while compiling a joint list of all the birds detected.
Do you want to join us and, at the same time, learn new tools to improve your bird identification skills?
We will meet at 7:30 a.m. at the outer parking area of the Remolar-Filipines barrier. Depending on the most recent and interesting sightings, we may move to another spot or begin our itinerary on foot towards the entrance of the natural reserves.
Throughout the day, we will visit various locations, such as the Llobregat River Natural Areas, Can Dimoni, the Olla del Rei pond, the Reguerons, La Murtra, and the different coastal pinewoods of Gavà and Castelldefels. We will bring our own sandwiches to enjoy breakfast in the field and later lunch, always with binoculars hanging around our necks to ensure we don’t miss a single detail.
In the late afternoon, depending on whether we have achieved our objectives, we will consider the day concluded.
