A guided half-day birdwatching excursion to discover the most characteristic bird species of this remarkable natural park, designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve thanks to its outstanding natural heritage and biodiversity.
Turó de l'Home, rising to over 1,700 metres above sea level, offers an extraordinary diversity of vegetation and habitats. From the lower slopes, dominated by holm oak forests, pine woodlands and cork oak forests, to the higher elevations, where magnificent beech forests and silver fir woodlands prevail, this variety of environments supports a remarkable diversity of birds.
Among the most interesting and elusive species we may encounter are Alpine Accentor, White-winged Snowfinch, Ring Ouzel and Fieldfare, all particularly associated with mountain habitats and higher elevations.
The spectacular beech forests surrounding Santa Fe del Montseny, with their breathtaking scenery, are also home to a fascinating variety of woodland birds, including Marsh Tit, Eurasian Nuthatch, Tawny Owl and Black Woodpecker, one of the most impressive and emblematic species of the Montseny's mature forests.
We will meet at 8:00 a.m. at the Fogars de Montclús Information Centre car park (41.715492, 2.461114), located next to the roundabout leading towards Campins, approximately 3.5 km beyond the town of Sant Celoni.
From there, we will drive up to the free car park providing access to Turó de l'Home (41.771426, 2.440223). We will then walk towards the meteorological observatory, enjoying our first bird sightings of the day while surrounded by some of the most spectacular panoramic views in Catalonia.
Our next stop will be Santa Fe del Montseny, where we will park our vehicles near the information centre. From here, we will begin a birdwatching walk through the surrounding woodlands, searching for characteristic species such as Marsh Tit, Tawny Owl and Eurasian Nuthatch. We will also learn how to identify these and other woodland birds by recognising their distinctive calls and songs.
At approximately 2:00 p.m., our birdwatching excursion will come to an end, and we will begin our journey back.
