We invite you to join us on a full-day birdwatching trip through the steppe areas of eastern Aragon, where we’ll enjoy a wide variety of bird species specially adapted to these harsh habitats. From the largest and most impressive species, such as great bustards and eagle owls, to the smallest and most perfectly camouflaged ones, like the lesser short-toed lark or the dupont's lark. We will also have the chance to observe other spectacular birds such as black-bellied sandgrouse, pin-tailed sandgrouse, or lesser kestrels. Throughout the day, we’ll explore different steppe landscapes to complete a bird-filled day full of discoveries.

The meeting point will be at 7:00 a.m. in the free parking area of the Torrefarrera service area, right at exit 462 of the A-2 highway towards Lleida, where you’ll see the petrol station and the 24-hour service area. The exact location is 41.664532, 0.607407.
Once everyone has arrived, we will return to the A-2 towards Zaragoza and continue along the AP-2 until we reach Bujaraloz, from where we will access the steppes and surrounding areas. We will visit different zones to locate small groups of great bustard and little bustard, as well as the various lark species in the area: Eurasian skylark, Thekla’s lark, calandra lark, and greater and lesser short-toed larks.
In addition, this is an excellent area for observing birds of prey, so we may have the chance to see lesser kestrel, short-toed snake eagle, booted eagle, golden eagle, red kite, black kite, Montagu’s harrier, and even the Eurasian eagle-owl.
In the early afternoon, we will head to our second observation site: the steppes of Candasnos. There, we will explore the area on foot, staying alert to any movement or calls. We will pay special attention to finding Dupont’s larks, as well as pin-tailed and black-bellied sandgrouse.
Around 5:00 p.m., depending on how the day unfolds, we will end the excursion and begin our journey back.
